I would like to use this thread to comment on the impact the local newspaper "Broader View Weekly" is having on our community (Eastern Tioga, Southern Tompkins, Western Chemung counties). A labor of love on the part of the editor and the reporters, from what I understand, BVW has had a front page article about gas drilling for the past 6 months (or more) I am continually amazed at the level of knowledge about the issue in our community (at least compared with other communities) Much of which can be attributed to this newspaper. This kind of information source is vital to any chance at democracy, especially in poor rural areas with out access to high speed internet. I can't say if all of that is going to help us in 4 months when the permits start, but maybe things would have been different if we'd had the BVW 10 years ago when big energy began infiltraiting our community...
